The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Marching Band kicked off its 2020 season on Thursday, January 30!
Crowding into their Columbus Circle rehearsal space in Manhattan, the band played through a series of 20 songs, each one a contender for the coveted five-song marching set. At the end of the evening members filled out and turned in forms indicating their favorite songs, and marching band director Marita Begley will announce which the band will be playing at the band’s town hall in March.
But, in addition to the music, there was celebration and thanks. LGBAC founding member Jacqui Aquilino-Jirak was awarded the Golden Apple in recognition of her longstanding contributions and support to the organization. After her moving acceptance speech the band applauded the worthy recipient and continued to make the music she first made possible.
