LGBAC Committees

The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps has eight standing committees (as of 9/20/09):

  • Executive Committee: The Executive Committee consists of seven members of the Board of Directors, plus the Artistic Directors of the Marching and Symphonic Bands. The Artistic Directors serve the Executive Committee in an advisory capacity and do not have a vote. The Executive Committee meets monthly and all Members are welcome to attend. The committee is chaired by the LGBAC Board President.
  • Finance and Audit: From our Bylaws, "The Finance and Audit Committee shall be responsible for overseeing all financial matters, including but not limited to reviewing the Corporation's annual financial budget, developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with all finance, accounting, legal and ethics policies and procedures, and engaging and coordinating with the Corporation's outside auditors with respect to the audit of the Corporation's financial statements." This committee is chaired by LGBAC Board Treasurer David Woods.
  • Membership: Another Bylaws-mandated committee, "The Membership Committee shall be responsible for developing and carrying out strategies for the solicitation of new members and the reactivation of inactive members, maintaining and updating the membership roster, updating and distributing membership applications and membership renewal applications, [and] maintaining and distributing information to the membership". The chair of this committee is Scott Sayers.
  • Elections: Once again, from our Bylaws, "The Elections Committee shall be responsible for oversight of the Board's participation, membership, support, education and orientation of new Board members and shall also review and identify the expertise needs of the Board and officers based on the Corporation's strategic goals, develop and communicate criteria for Board member candidates, receive nominations, originate, qualify and recommend all Board membership to the members, and make nominations for election of Directors". Board Secretary Andrew Berman is the chair of this committee.
  • Web Services: As stated in its charter, "The Web Services Committee will manage and oversee all web-based projects for the LGBAC including but not limited to wiki, website, listserv, discussion boards, email blasts, and BandCentral." Board Vice President Brandon Travan is the chair of this committee.
  • Marketing and Promotions: As stated in its charter, "The Marketing and Advertising Committee shall manage and oversee all advertising, marketing and promotional activities for the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps as delegated by the Executive Board. This includes but is not limited to promotional materials for concerts, recruitment materials, press releases, press kits, and print and electronic advertising." This committee is chaired by Virginia Asman.
  • New Home: The New Home Committee, chaired by Dale Aucoin, is charged with finding a new, permanent location for LGBAC rehearsals and performances.
  • 30th Anniversary: From its charter, "The 30th Anniversary Committee will plan, budget, fundraise, and implement events to honor the 30th Anniversary of the LGBAC. Highlights are the 2009 summer marching season and the 2009 fall concert season." Scott Oaks is the chair of this committee.
